[edit] Separating Tasks From Launchers

Perhaps a "Keep in dock" menuitem similar to OS X's. 79.178.102.113 2008-09-04T08:46:21 (PDT)

As a Mac user trying to migrate to Ubuntu, I'd agree wholeheartedly - as far as Mac users are concerned, "open" and "openable" applications are distinguished only by their glow. David n m bond 03:12, 28 May 2009 (PDT)

I have the Launcher/Task Manager applet at the beginning of the dock (containing my most used programs), and individual applets afterwards (calculator, weather, stacks). When tasks open they appear in the dock in the middle between the Launcher/Task Manager applet and the individual applets icons. It would be better if the tasks appeared at the very end (right) of the dock.

[edit] Arbitrary Placement

From a technical standpoint, this should be easily doable with pointer grabs. 79.178.102.113 2008-09-04T08:46:21 (PDT)

The above note needs to be explained. malept 14:26, 9 September 2008 (PDT)

On a futher note, with this feature I would like the option of icons in a the same "Application" (Icons that would be grouped with this in normal circumstances) to group without this one specific window. This would allow, for example, a contact list window to stay on the right hand edge, but have all conversation windows appear in a group if needed. [Triggerhapp]

Just to add a few details, after having a quick chat with moonbeam, One approach would be to have the plugin for each program list how it would like its tasks grouped, if needed, sending a list of windows (xid's, for cross toolkit usage?) A second way is to pass a single or few windows (xids?) across from the application/plugin to AWN, specified as "Dont group" and/or "stick to edge", and the corresponding edge. --82.5.0.197 19:14, 5 February 2009 (PST)

[edit] Window Grouping

When clicked on an icon in dock that has windows grouped (or maybe on a mouse over?), display a frame with window previews for all applications in that group and allow user to click on individual window. -- SLava
