im.tehk: Is there any reason for the versions? Most experimental applets are not given release numbers.

No, but I think it should be. The users has to know which version is table and which don't. Also the users need to know if there is already a stable version of some applets. Else they try it and it doesn't work and get a badly impression about AWN.
